2017 UFTA Nationals Amateur Pointing Champion crowned........Matt Behe and his dog Slick, continued the dominance that propelled them to the High Points Championship for both the Open and Amateur Pointing Divisions in the regular season to capture the Amateur Pointing National Championship at Wayne Fitzgerrel State Recreation Center in Whittington, IL. Matt and Slick out paced the rest of the field with two 3 minute runs in Mondays final runoff. Two days prior, a field of over 150 dogs and handlers from all over the U.S. including last year's Champion Randy Brown and Hannah, perennial favorites like Scott Deuel, Bernie Berkinholz and Paul Vaughn and new comers like David Register and Cody Calvert began qualifying to reach the finals. Over two days of competition, the field was narrowed down to 35 for the final runoff. Below are the 10 Ten Placements for the event.

Over two days of competition, the field was narrowed down to 35 for the final runoff in unseasonably warm temperatures for late February in southern Illinois, Monday, February 27th, 2017. Although Matt and Slick lead from the start, the competition for 2nd through 10th place was tight until the very end. Below are the 10 Ten Placements for the event.

On the eve of the 2017 Nationals Amateur Pointing Qualifying, all the handlers gathered at the conference center at the Rend Lake Golf Resort to get the low down on the next day's competition. The eve of the first official event of this year's Nationals will surely bring some restless nights for some of the competitors, both rookies and old pros as they ponder all the hours of preparation, their draws, the level of competition, the weather, the wind, strategy, etc.

Registration for all competitors / all divisions will be open 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. February 23rd - March 1st, 2017 at the Rend Lake Golf Resort main office. Please make this a priority upon your arrival.
